BRILLIG LIVE - After
6 months of self-imposed hibernation, Brillig returns to the
stage on Saturday 13th September at the Wheatsheaf
Hotel (George St, Thebarton SA). The occasion marks
the first time Brillig will be performing as a full
acoustic Goth Folk band.
On the night the band will be showcasing a stack of
new songs, all exploring the traditional folk themes
of death, loss & longing (nothing like Brillig to cheer
you up!). From murder ballads to treacherous
sea shanties, tales of suicide and love lost, brillig's
new set takes the audience on a melancholic journey, but one
that is oddly uplifting and dreamily
romantic.
Brillig's enchanting melodies & sweet harmonies
prove that all that's dark is not dreary, and the graceful
and intricate instrumentation features a diverse array
of:
* male/female vocals * viola * banjo * guitar *
* ukulele * bass * piano accordion * drums * harmonica
* & traditional Americana folk instrument, 'autoharp'*
The
live show kicks off at 9pm with Japanese singer/songwriter
Nobu, whose beautiful (and sometimes cheeky) songs
are a real treat. Entry is free, and the night ends at 11:30pm
sharp.

NEW
DRUMS -
In a very special announcement,
Brillig's 13th Sept gig marks the historic addition of
live drums to its full band lineup, ably provided by
the superb & subtle percussive style of Ben Macklin
(ex-Bit By Bats).
Ben has also joined Brillig at Hillside Studios
of late, and a new EP is on the horizon with
an expected release in late October.

NEW
TRACKS -
Brillig will be releasing a few new tracks from
their forthcoming EP on Myspace in the coming
weeks...
The new tracks will include their cover of a song from their
favourite flick Phantom of the Paradise. The
musical is a cross between Faust/Phantom of the Opera/Rocky
Horror, and was scored by (and starred) the legendary Paul
Williams (The Rainbow Connection). Brillig's Matt &
Elizabeth were fortunate enough to meet the man himself at APRA's
Song Summit Sydney, and haven't stopped smiling since!

NEW
DOCUMENTARY - In
the meantime, you can get a very small taste of Brillig's new
style on YouTube. A recent mini-documentary
was filmed at the Grace Emily Hotel (June 2008)
as a special project by Nick Page, Peter Kumic & Peter Cleary.
The 6 minute production 'Twas Brillig introduces
a few of the band's new instruments, and gives some insight
into their curious sound of 'Gothic Folk.'
Don't forget - Brillig's full acoustic band
hits the stage on Saturday 13th September at
the Wheatsheaf Hotel.
