of its Fringe show this Sunday (7th March)!
All previous sessions have hosted a full house,

here for details.
************************
This
is it... The Adelaide Fringe Festival is
now on, and Brillig will be turning the Grace Emily stage
into a (delightful) cemetery for our shows
"Til Death Do Us Part."
You'll
know you're in the right place when you see a HEARSE
out the front...!!
Watch
for the band at the Fringe Opening Night festivities, too
- we should be hard to miss, as Brillig and fellow mourners
turn the Parade route into a Funeral Procession,
complete with coffin, tombstones and other
'fun' stuff!
Hope
to see you at one of the CD Launches / Fringe shows
as we finally get our acoustic LP 'The Red Coats' out to
the Aussie audiences. There will be special guest
singers on the night, so come along and join in
as Brillig prove that murder ballads are in fact, strangely
uplifting!

What has Brillig been up to?!
22
DECEMBER 2009
Brillig has been busy gigging in the second half of 2009,
including shows at the theater and main stage of the Fleurieu
Folk Festival, a tremendously fun support slot
for The Black Eyed Susans, getting the
little kiddies to dance to murder ballads during the Whitmore
Square Arts Fair, and more.
You can keep
track of such adventures on this website's gig page,
or better yet, sign
up for the mailing list and get the news straight
to you. You can also find Brillig on Twitter, Facebook,
Youtube and Myspace, if that's
how you roll in cyberspace. See the bottom of this
page for all links.
In the meantime, you can re-visit some earlier newsletters
from the latter half of the year:

Brillig Live - Europe Highlights
JULY
2009
Just a very quick wind up of the highlights from Brillig's
first overseas tour...quite simply, it was the best
thing the band has ever done, and they're still smiling!
Brillig's festival performance at WGT in Leipzig,
Germany is easily the band's favourite show, where they performed
in the gorgeous Schauspielhaus Theatre to a huge crowd...and
received a standing ovation!! Aww, shucks...
that was a nice moment indeed.
The band also took in several shows in Berlin,
including the renowned Shokoladen - or 'chocolate
factory', and a way-cool 'underground' venue, 'Sin Club',
as well as a quick visit to Prague, playing
at XT3 and the Red Room. Great
responses all around, and everyone was just so darn nice &
welcoming!
Brillig also spent quality time with their Chemnitz-based (German)
record label Black Rain, who were so incredibly
nice, they even made a 'Brillig cake' for the
band at a special post-show party!!! Fit for any mad tea party
indeed. Sweet! (and yes, you could eat the frosting!)
.........
The
festival was amazing, the gigs were great fun, the cities were
gorgeous, the beer was delicious, the autobahn was crazy, but
most of all, Brillig will remember the generosity and
friendliness of all the people they met.
The band is grateful to all who helped make their trip so memorable,
with extra special thanks to Gerald & Katja
(Black Rain), Nicholas & Naomi (Dandelion Wine, and Lobsty!),
Pavel & Paesant (Radio Wave), Aliese, Pippa & Cath,
Sarah (Shokoladen), Lady Gaby (Sin Club), Linda, Stefan &
Petr (Austrade), Marika & Jo (Home for Wayward Bands), Leo
& Lucy (Promo-fabrik), Alexander (Velvet Photos), Merrick
(Aural Apocalypse) and of course ArtsSA for the touring support.
Now, plans are afoot for a return visit in 2010.....

* Brillig launches debut acoustic LP
JULY
2009
While in Europe, not only did the band make their debut overseas
festival performance, they also released their first-ever
acoustic album, "The Red Coats." Officially
released in July throughout Europe on Black Rain records, the
12 track CD is already gathering rave reviews:
"9.5 out of 10" - ORKUS Magazine
(Germany)
"a total work of art."- MEDIENKONVERTER
(Germany)
"a masterpiece ...musical pearls full
of fragility and grace." - USELINKS
(Germany)
"Brillig has this magical not-of-this-world touch....
Absolutely recommendable."- DARK
MOMENTS (Germany)
"The
offspring between Nick Cave & The Pogues.
'The Red Coats' brings a kind of happiness through the simple
magic of their music." SIDE-LINE
Music Magazine (Belgium)
"The
atmosphere thickens with a magic charm that
increases with each listen to this excellent work of music,
where style & experimentation create a nostalgic combination,
wise and genuine."- BABYLON
MAGAZINE (Italy)
You can hear a few tracks from the LP on Myspace,
and overseas purchases can be made from the Black
Rain website.
Watch
this space for an announcement regarding the Australian
launch of 'The Red Coats' later in the year.
* Brillig Heads Overseas to Launch Debut Acoustic Album
MAY
2009
And
they're off! Brillig is heading overseas in May to make their
European festival debut, and to launch their
very first acoustic album, "The Red Coats."
The full four piece band (multi-instrumentalists
and vocalists Matt Swayne & Elizabeth Reid, bassist Denni
Meredith and drummer Ben Macklin) will be playing at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen
Festival in Leipzig, which attracts 25,000+
punters every year. Their gig at the lush and picturesque
Schauspielhaus theatre sees them on the same
bill as labelmate Die Blaue Reuter (Spain),
and German band Rapaccini's Tochter.
Along
the way, the band will stop off in Berlin & Prague
for some side shows with other labelmates Dandelion
Wine (Aus), including a live to air
performance on Czech's Radio Wave station.
They're also popping up in radio interviews in Switzerland
(Radio K) and internet station Aural
Apocalypse, with more TBA. Watch for feature
articles and interview in the next editions of Zillo,
NegaTIEF and Orkus glossy mags as
well!
While
in the region, Brillig is looking forward to spending time with
their Chemnitz, Germany- based label, Black Rain,
who has previously released Brillig's electro-pop CDs (Mirror
on the Wall LP 2007 and the Plagiarist EP 2007) throughout Europe,
UK, Russia and North America. The label will soon have
Brillig's Australian pressing of the 2008 acoustic Jack
Davey EP available via mail order.
Tracks from new LP "The Red Coats"
are up on Brillig's Myspace (www.myspace.com/brilligacoustic),
and the album will be available overseas from late May. Read
more about "The Red Coats" on the
Recordings
page, and watch this space for news on its arrival in Australia
in late 2009. In the meantime, see the Gigs
page for the overseas dates & poster, and keep an ear out
for Brillig's next Oz shows from mid 2009.

* Brillig is #3 on Three D Radio for 2008
JANUARY
2009
As announced
on Australia Day 2009, beloved Adelaide station Three D revealed
its 100+1 most played tracks for Jan-Dec 2008.
Brillig's Oct 2008 EP, "Jack Davey" took
out the number 3 spot on the list, ahead of
such illustrious acts as The Audreys (4) and Nick Cave and the
Bad Seeds (10).
The 3 position
beats Brillig's previous record of 6, and the Jack Davey EP
itself had already enjoyed several weeks at the No.1
and No.2 position from October.
The band
would like to thank all of the station's presenters, listeners
and subscribers for their wonderful support.
Congrats
to all the bands on the list (see the full 101 at www.threedradio.com
), and hooray for Three D Radio!!

* Brillig Invited to Overseas Fest
NOVEMBER 2008
In breaking news, Brillig can now officially announce that they
have been invited to play at Wave-Gotik-Treffen
(WGT) in May/June 2009, the world's largest dark alternative festival
which attracts upwards of 25,000 people to Leipzig,
Germany.
The band is absolutely thrilled to be making their European festival
debut, and will be joining 150+ bands from across
the globe on the lineup, including a handful from Brillig's
own label Black Rain Music
Group.
Wave-Gotik-Treffen (Treffen means "the meeting") is
an annual festival for music and arts featuring performances
from a variety of genres (e.g. Gothic rock, EBM, Darkwave, Neofolk,
Neoclassical, Noise, Medieval Music, Experimental)
throughout the city of Leipzig over 4 days on
Whitsuntide (ie. the week beginning on Whitsunday, or seventh
Sunday after Easter).
WGT has seen the likes of The
Human League, Cocteau Twins, Alphaville, Soft Cell, The Legendary
Pink Dots, Lydia Lunch grace the stage in the
past, plus more goth bands than you can poke a frown at including Opeth, Emilie Autumn,
My Dying Bride, Cinema Strange and many others.
Early reports tell us that this year will see the return of
Clan of Xymox, Feindflug,
KMFDM, & Psyche, with more announcements
of the lineup and full festival details are expected in the
coming months.
Brillig is the only
South Australian band on the bill.
Brillig will be playing as a
full acoustic band for the event (including
live drums), and will be releasing a new
full album through Black Rain in late March 2009.
The German-based label covers the territories of Europe, Russia
and North America, and has been instrumental
in Brillig's growing presence in the overseas market through
the release of the 2007 LP "Mirror on the Wall" and
2007 special release "The Plagiarist".
Making the most of the quick trip, Brillig is currently lining
up other showcase events and a string of European shows with
labelmates Dandelion Wine
(VIC), who have a wealth of international touring experience
under their belts. More dates TBA soon...

* "Jack Davey" EP goes to #1....twice
NOVEMBER
2008
Having played to a full house at their recent EP Launch for "Jack
Davey" on Halloween, Brillig is enjoying
great feedback for their new sound and CD. The EP recently went
to the #1 spot
on SA's
Three D Radio two weeks in a row (31st Oct &
7 Nov 2008). Many thanks to Three D and its listeners for the
support!!
The
5 track "Jack Davey"
EP was recorded at Hillside
Studios with famed SA producer Matt Hills (Wolf
& Cub, The Lucksmiths), and is the first
release since Brillig's reinvention as a
four-piece acoustic act. A shout out to those
who have supported the band in this endeavour - click here for
our GRATITUDE LIST ! You can read a little
history about the CD's development in a recent Brillig interview
with Rip
It Up Magazine (scroll down the RIU page).
Another huge
THANK YOU to all of those who attended the EP
Launch, to Dandelion Wine for
trekking from VIC just for the occasion, and to mixer-extraordinaire Thom Combe for
his patience & deft handling of Brillig's host of new instruments
(including a banjo,
autoharp, piano accordion and ukulele).
The amazing Grace
Emily Hotel also deserves a special mention,
for their ongoing support and for letting the band turn the
entire stage into a Tim Burton-esque
cemetery for Halloween, complete with creepy
tree, real ivy, and tombstones... (Thanks to
Bad Seed Designs for help with the spooky epitaphs
too!). Check out some photos at left (thanks Naomi!!), and on
Myspace.
Don't forget , you can hear
2 new tracks from Brillig's EP on Myspace: Title
track "Jack Davey",

* Thanks to Whitmore Square Arts Fair & Mick Thomas
NOVEMBER
2008
Many thanks to the organisers, participants and punters at the
Whitmore Square Arts Fair. It was a perfect
day of fine food/drink, art galore and musical merriment, and
Brillig was excited to be performing in daylight for once and
to attract some of their youngest fans yet - we're talking 19
months! Brillig did their best 'Evil Wiggles' impression...
Thanks to Gordon Andersen for the opportunity.
The Fair was followed by a more familiar nighttime appearance
by Brillig later that evening, when they supported Mick
Thomas (Weddings, Parties, Anything) at the Grace Emily.
Mick and special guest Michael Barclay had
the whole pub singing along to his classic tunes, and it was
great to see him intently watching Brillig's set too.
