"The Hearse Song" has its basis in a Traditional American folk lyric which to this day is recited by children across the United States on Halloween.

Some of you may be familiar with the chorus....

“The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out
The worms play pinochle on your snout
They eat your eyes, they eat your nose
They eat the jelly between your toes"

Brillig adapted, arranged and set this to music, and the resulting track enjoys a lurching, uneasy Addam’s Family groove. With hypnotic acoustic & electric guitars, a super groovy bass, chimey autoharp, creepy accordion, and the requisite silly lyrics, Brillig have truly made this track their own. A shout out to awesome Adelaide-based drummer BJ Barker, who laid down some strident military-style beats with flair.

ABOUT "THE RED COATS" LP:

Recorded in Australia by famed Adelaide Producer Matt Hills from June - Dec 2008, "The Red Coats" is Brillig's debut acoustic album.

It has been released throughout Europe, UK, Russia & North America in July 2009 by German label Black Rain, to coincide with Brillig's international festival debut and European CD Launch Tour. Back home in Australia, the LP was released during the 2010 Adelaide Fringe Festival, with further Australian/NZ CD launches to be announced mid year.

Continuing in the same acoustic style as the Jack Davey EP ('08; see below), the new 12 track album also contains more up-tempo songs, sea shanties, a beautiful ghost story, a tribute to Brillig's favourite drink Absinthe, and of course the requisite folk murder ballads.

The CD is already gathering rave reviews (see Press), and is currently enjoying press and airplay across the globe, including Australia, Germany, UK, USA, The Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Italy, France, Russia, Czech Republic, Switzerland & more. "The Red Coats" was also recently Three D Radio's Feature Release, and spent 8 weeks on the station's Top 20+1 charts, including the #2 spot.

ABOUT the "JACK DAVEY" EP:

Brillig's 5 track EP "Jack Davey" was completed at the end of September '08 in Hillside Studios with famed SA producer Matt Hills (Wolf & Cub, The Lucksmiths), and heralded Brillig's reinvention as a four-piece acoustic act. The EP was a long time coming for the band, whose previous work (Mirror on the Wall LP 2007) represented an entirely different style.

"Jack Davey" was a precursor to new LP, "The Red Coats", and was released as a preview of the band's new acoustic style.

The EP received airplay across Australia, and spent two weeks in a row at the #1 spot on Three D Radio's Top 20+1 Countdown, and another 2 weeks at #2. "Jack Davey" came in at #3 overall for the Top 101 of 2008.
