Completing their cycle of seasonal trips,
BRILLIG (SA) & GOLDENTONE set out for the
"AUTUMN OF THE UNKNOWN TOUR"
bringing their haunting pop & sad stories to the
Victorian Goldfields & beyond...
|
Dead
Letter Records present the "Autumn of the Unknown
Tour" with Goth Alt. Country act Brillig,
and Acoustic Pop duo
Goldentone (feat. singer/songwriter Tim
Hudspith).
The last in a cycle of seasonal trips, (which began in July
'07 with the "Dead of Winter", followed by the "Sorrow
of Spring" & "Summer of Discontent"), the
moody-titled tour series aptly represents the bands' trademark
style of melancholic, yet strangely uplifting, melodic
music.
Cult
act Brillig are well known in their hometown of Adelaide
for their odd blend of goth & country/folk.
Described as "curiously dark in the tradition of Lewis
Carroll, ... with days-gone-by poetic flair" (dB Magazine),
Brillig's music features male/female harmonies, acoustic
guitar, viola, harmonica, banjo, piano accordion, plus
the NEW ADDITION of ukulele & autoharp.
Signed to Germany's Black Rain label, Brillig's
music has been receiving rave reviews & airplay all over
Europe & the USA, and an overseas tour
is in the works for early 2009. Back home, brillig have recently
supported the nation's top acts in the alt. acoustic scene,
including ARIA-winning act The Audreys, CW
Stoneking, Sime Nugent, Andrew Morris, Ned Collette, & The
Handsome Family (USA). Brillig also toured nationally
throughout '07, playing in all capital cities east of SA.
Tim
Hudspith (Goldentone) has been carving a niche for
himself in the local original music scene since moving to Ballarat
just over a year ago.
Originally
hailing from Adelaide he has played over 250 gigs
all over Australia, including major events like the Big
Day Out.

Over
the years, this Goldentone frontman has also
enjoyed national airplay, great reviews and
has supported acclaimed artists such as Ed Kuepper,
The Go-Betweens and The Stone Roses.
With
musical influences ranging from Nick Cave & The Church to
Johnny Cash & Mazzy Star, Tim's sweet melodies &
dark voice are compelling and addictive. Recently teaming
up with Ballarat guitarist extraordinaire, Adam Seery,
Goldentone's sound is soaring to new heights
with Tim's chimey Rickenbacker perfectly complemented by Adam's
thoughtful and powerful guitar riffs/rhythms.
For the
"Autumn of the Unknown Tour",
Brillig and Goldentone return to the charming Maryborough
Railway Station Cafe on Friday 9th May
for a dinnertime performance (7:30pm; book early to reserve
a table!). For this show they will be joined by the lovely piano
accordion act,
Madame's Lament, performing
an eclectic mix of original material andarrangements of
french folk/classical tunes.
Next stop is Castlemaine on Saturday
10th May, where Brillig & Goldentone hit the stage
of the famed Five Flags Hotel (8:30pm), plus
a very special instore appearance at Burke's
Music store (2pm). Come along to the best music shop
in the Goldfields, hear some unplugged tunes & grab a CD
or two.
The bands have also added Melbourne to their
itinerary for this trip, doing a low-key Sunday arvo set on
11th May at North Melbourne's Town
Hall Hotel (5pm).
Brillig & Goldentone complement each other beautifully,
and have enjoyed playing together in Adelaide, Canberra, and
of course regional Victoria. Having found an appreciative &
intrigued audience in the Goldfields, these engaging acoustic
acts plan to further expand their seasonal treks to include
the VIC coast and regional SA in latter 2008.
